TikTok’s newest feature is a machine that eats your long, boring videos and spits out ready-to-post clips. It’s called Smart Split AI. It doesn't revolutionize anything. It just automates the tedious part.

Creators already chop up their footage for Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. This tool does the chopping for them. Pick the segments you want, and the AI handles the rest: cutting to length, writing captions, and forcing everything into a vertical frame.

The company launched it globally through TikTok Studio Web, its desktop management platform. That’s the real signal. They’re not just testing a gimmick. They’re baking this automation directly into the workflow of anyone trying to make content for them.

You select what parts of the video you want turned into shorter clips and Smart Split will handle the rest including choosing the length, generating captions, and even reframing content vertically.

Alongside Smart Split, TikTok is testing a second tool called AI Outline. This one works before you even hit record. You give it a prompt or pick a trending topic, and it coughs up a video blueprint: suggested titles, hashtags, a hook, a script.

It’s a content ideation bot. For now, it’s only for creators over 18 in the US, Canada, and a few other places.

The company also tweaked its revenue split for creators with subscription programs. The standard cut is 70%. But if you have at least 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the past month, and posted three subscriber-only videos last month, your share can jump to 90%.

TikTok’s strategy is clear. Lower the effort required to feed its platform. First by scripting your idea, then by editing your footage.

The goal isn’t artistry. It’s volume.
