Claude Shared Chats Exposed in Google Search Results

Reddit users spent the weekend typing "site:claude.ai/share" into Google and finding more than they bargained for. The search operator surfaced a long list of shared Claude conversations, some containing health records, private company documents, and children's names and phone numbers, all indexed and publicly searchable. The exposure traces back to Claude's share chat feature, which generates a link that lets anyone who has it view a conversation or an Artifact, the interactive mini apps and documents users can build inside the chatbot.

Claude's own interface tells users "Anyone with the link can view," language that suggests the feature was built for passing a chat to a friend or coworker, not for publishing it to the open web. Google Docs has offered comparable sharing for years without those documents turning up in search results, which is part of why this caught people off guard. Anthropic's response, when TechCrunch asked about it, put the responsibility back on users, saying links only get indexed if someone posts them somewhere a search engine can crawl, like a forum or a social media thread.

A company spokeswoman went further in an explainer addressing how the links actually work.
