OpenAI also points to an internal test on finance, medicine, and law prompts, claiming factual errors dropped about 62 percent for Luna and 68 percent for Sol compared to GPT-5.5 Instant. Those numbers come from OpenAI itself and haven't been checked by outside researchers.
The changes are limited to ChatGPT. Codex and ChatGPT Work keep the older, unchanged version of Sol for now. Alongside the model swap, OpenAI is rolling out a new slider for paying users that controls how much reasoning effort ChatGPT applies to a given prompt, a feature already live in ChatGPT Work and now extended to web, mobile, and desktop.
